Safety

Both the GV80 and QX65 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The GV80 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The QX65’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Genesis GV80 achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Infiniti QX65 has not been tested.

The GV80 offers an optional Multi-Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The QX65 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the GV80’s standard Downhill Brake Control allows you to creep down safely. The QX65 doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

Both the GV80 and QX65 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the GV80 has Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The QX65’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the GV80 and the QX65 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all-wheel drive and around view monitors.

The Genesis GV80 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2026 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test, and a “Good” score in the revised vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention test. The QX65 has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2026.

Warranty

The GV80 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The QX65’s 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the GV80 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Infiniti covers the QX65. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the QX65 ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates rated the GV80 second among upper midsize premium suvs in their 2025 Initial Quality Study. The QX65 isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Infiniti vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 59 more problems per 100 vehicles, Infiniti is rated below average.

Engine

The GV80 2.5T’s standard 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 32 more horsepower (300 vs. 268) and 25 lbs.-ft. more torque (311 vs. 286) than the QX65’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. The GV80 3.5T’s standard 3.5 turbo V6 produces 107 more horsepower (375 vs. 268) and 105 lbs.-ft. more torque (391 vs. 286) than the QX65’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

Fuel Economy and Range

The GV80 has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the QX65 (21.1 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The GV80 has a standard locking fuel door, which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the QX65. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the GV80’s brake rotors are larger than those on the QX65:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the GV80 has larger tires than the QX65 (265/40R22 vs. 255/50R20).

The GV80 PRESTIGE’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the QX65 Autograph’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GV80 PRESTIGE has standard 22-inch wheels. The QX65’s largest wheels are only 21-inches.

Suspension and Handling

The GV80 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The QX65’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The GV80 PRESTIGE/3.5T has a standard automatic rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The QX65 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The GV80’s optional drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The QX65 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GV80’s wheelbase is 2.1 inches longer than on the QX65 (116.3 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

For greater off-road capability the GV80 has a 2.23 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the QX65 (8.1 vs. 5.87 inches), allowing the GV80 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The GV80 is 4 inches shorter than the QX65, making the GV80 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the GV80 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The QX65 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The GV80 offers optional seating for 7 passengers; the QX65 can only carry 5.

The GV80 has 31.6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the QX65 (140 vs. 108.4).

The GV80 has 1.5 inches more rear headroom and 3 inches more rear legroom than the QX65.

Cargo Capacity

The GV80’s cargo area provides more volume than the QX65.

Servicing Ease

The engine in the GV80 is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the QX65. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

Ergonomics

If the windows are left open on the GV80 the driver can close all of them at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the QX65 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The GV80 Advanced/Prestige’s Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The QX65 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Model Availability

The GV80 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The QX65 doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Recommendations

The GV80 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2021. The QX65 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
